Our commitment: Ed Techs strives to ensure edtechs.org conforms to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We actively work to identify and resolve accessibility barriers on an ongoing basis.
Our Accessibility Commitment
Ed Techs Ltd believes that the internet should be accessible and available to everyone — regardless of physical or cognitive ability, age, location, or the technology they use to access it. We are committed to providing an inclusive digital experience for all users of edtechs.org, including individuals with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive disabilities.
We view accessibility not as a compliance checkbox but as an integral part of responsible digital publishing. Our goal is to ensure that all visitors can access, read, understand, and interact with our technology content and services.
Standards We Follow
Our accessibility efforts are guided by the following standards and frameworks:
- WCAG 2.1 Level AA — Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
- Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (as amended)
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Title III requirements for public accommodation
- EN 301 549 — European accessibility standard for digital products
Accessibility Features
We have implemented the following accessibility features on edtechs.org:
Visual Accessibility
- Sufficient colour contrast ratios throughout the site (minimum 4.5:1 for body text)
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- All informational images include descriptive alternative (alt) text
- Purely decorative images have empty alt attributes to be ignored by screen readers
- No content relies exclusively on colour to convey meaning
Navigation & Structure
- All pages have a logical, hierarchical heading structure (H1 → H2 → H3)
- All pages have descriptive, unique page titles
- Navigation menus are consistent across pages
- Skip-to-main-content links are available for keyboard users
- All form fields have associated visible labels
- Error messages clearly identify which field has an issue and how to correct it
Keyboard Accessibility
- All interactive elements (links, buttons, forms) are accessible via keyboard navigation
- Focus indicators are visible on all interactive elements
- No keyboard traps — users can navigate away from any element using the keyboard alone
- Tab order follows a logical, meaningful sequence
Screen Reader Compatibility
- Semantic HTML5 is used throughout for proper structure and meaning
- ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes are used where native HTML semantics are insufficient
- Dynamic content changes are announced to screen reader users
- Tested with NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), and VoiceOver (macOS/iOS)
Media Accessibility
- Video content (where used) includes captions and transcripts
- No content flashes more than three times per second (to avoid triggering photosensitive seizures)
- Animations can be stopped, paused, or hidden by users
Known Limitations
While we strive to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA across all pages, we acknowledge the following known limitations that we are actively working to address:
- Third-party advertising content: Advertisements served by third-party networks may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We advocate with our advertising partners for accessible ad formats and are working to implement better controls.
- Older legacy content: Some older articles published before 2022 may have images without alt text or insufficient heading structure. We are systematically reviewing and updating this content.
- Data tables: Some complex data tables may not have optimal header associations for all screen readers. We are reviewing these on a priority basis.
Ongoing Accessibility Efforts
Accessibility is a continuous effort. Our ongoing activities include:
- Regular automated accessibility audits using tools such as axe, WAVE, and Lighthouse
- Periodic manual testing with assistive technologies including screen readers and keyboard-only navigation
- Accessibility review as part of our content publishing workflow
- Staff training on accessible content creation best practices
- Quarterly review of this Accessibility Statement to reflect current status
Browser and Assistive Technology Compatibility
edtechs.org is designed to be compatible with the following combinations of browsers and assistive technologies:
- Google Chrome (latest) with NVDA on Windows 10/11
- Mozilla Firefox (latest) with NVDA on Windows 10/11
- Microsoft Edge (latest) with JAWS on Windows 10/11
